Fallon Under Race-Fixing Inquiry in United Kingdom

Kieren Fallon, the former champion jockey, has been suspended from racing after he was charged by police with conspiracy to defraud Betfair customers.

UK's Horseracing Regulatory Authority (formerly the Jockey Club) ruled that Fallon be suspended until the end of trial.

The City of London police made the charges after their probe into alleged cheating from December 2002 to September 2004.

Fallon was only one of 11 people charged with the same crimes, on the same day that he won the Irish Derby at the Curragh on Dylan Thomas.

Still, Fallon will continue to race in Ireland. Irish Turf Club chief executive Denis Egan told the media: "He will be able to continue to ride. The licensing committee will obviously note what has happened, but as far as we are concerned Kieren Fallon is innocent until proven guilty."

Probe leader Detective Superintendent Tony Crampton, told the media that Fallon and the others charged had agreed not to run horses to their full potential.

Police said this probe was the biggest of its type ever undertaken. During the probe, over 130 police officers raided 19 addresses all over the UK. More than 30 people were arrested although 17 people will not face charges.
