New York Racing Association Warned by the Attorney General of Connecticut

On May 3, 2007, the New York Racing Association (NYRA) received a letter from the Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal regarding their online gaming site.

The New York Racing Association was the first organization in New York to feature online wagering on their horse racing tournaments. NYRA also owns the 3 biggest horse racing tracks in New York - the Aqueduct, Belmont Park and the Saratoga and feature a seamless online casino gambling platform conceptualized and developed by Sona Mobile Holdings Corporation.

The proposal provides that the New York Racing Association, a private corporation, accepts wagers on the horse races that are shown in TVG, an online network. A clause in the agreement will permit online horse race betting from the residents of Connecticut, according to the letter sent by Connecticut Attorney General.

Both Richard Blumenthal and Paul A. Young, the Executive Director of the Division of Special Revenue, sent the letters to the New York Racing Association and the New York Gambling Regulators which demand that this clause be removed since online gambling is prohibited in Connecticut.

Although New York Racing Association's website is regulated by the state's gambling board, Blumenthal said that the racing tracks cannot prevent their right to reject internet gambling. He also said that they will pursue legal action if NYRA does not take any action.
