Wynn Las Vegas to Restructure Tip Distribution Amongst Dealers and Supervisors

Wynn Las Vegas will implement a new tip distribution method due to the widening salary gap.

High end games such as baccarat are one of the main reasons for salary gap between dealers and supervisors.

Starting September 1st, the floor supervisors will share in the tips earned by the dealers and with the implementation the dealers' wagers will decrease by 10-20%

Amidst the protest of the dealers, on August 23rd, legal labor analysts said that the new tip distribution method abides by the law.

According to Atty. Gregory Kamer, the labor expert representing Wynn Las Vegas, the tip scheme is legal under Nevada law and several rulings in the past have allowed tip sharing among a group.

Kamer is referring to the decision of the U.S district court in 1975 that permitted tip pooling in the Las Vegas Hilton.

Meanwhile, Atty. Richard Segerblom, the employees' representative, said that the new tip distribution will likely survive any legal disputes.

Along with other officials, Chairman Steve Wynn of Wynn Resorts Ltd. told table game employees about the new distribution scheme last Monday.

Casino President Andrew Pascal explained that the dealers will receive an average of $90,000 per year, while the supervisors are expected to receive $95,000.

In addition, casino dealers will be able to join a bonus program that will allow dealers to earn extra pay.

Pascal said that Wynn dealers will still be the highest paid dealers in Las Vegas gambling casinos.
