Think Tank Centre for Cities Asserts Blackpool Deserves The Super-Casino

On January 29, 2007, Centre for Cities, an independent think tank, announced that they are backing the idea of putting up Great Britain's first super-casino ever in Blackpool.

The said think tank, which is an entity of Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR), stated their opinion on Monday, a day before a panel of experts finally revealed its ideal location.

According to research at Centre for Cities, Blackpool will benefit more from the super-casino than other cities such as Greenwich, Cardiff, Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffeld and Glasgow that are bidding for the gambling casino license.

Senior Researcher, Max Nathan, asserts that Blackpool deserves to snatch the bid considering the need for regeneration stated in the super-casino policy and agreement.

Blackpool's number of tourists drops by up to 2% every year, and is definitely likely to have a relatively high unemployment rate compared to the other frontrunner, Greenwich, which has gained around 8,000 job vacancies and visibly needs less regeneration.

However, Mr. Nathan warned that it is not an assurance that the super-casino would produce remarkable results to whoever wins the bid. He explained that it depends on how the winning bidder will associate the job opportunities to the community and come up with necessary cost efficiency procedures.
