The Condition of the Casino Market in Russia

It was a dark time for many businesses in Russia in 2009 when casino facilities were forced to shutdown under the new Russian gaming laws. The government's goal was to drive casino gaming out of the most densely populated areas of Russia.

Initially, the casino facilities that shutdown stated that they would not move to the remote areas where casino gaming would still be allowed. However, on January 30th, 2010, the Oracle Casino became the first gaming facility to open under the new laws when it opened its doors to gamers in Above City. It was not the type of grand opening that is usual when a new gaming facility opens.

Only about five hundred individuals showed up, but most of them looked as though they were only checking out the casino. Less than 20 percent of those in attendance in Oracle Casino's grand opening were gambling. Despite the lack of players on the first day, casino officials said that they are happy with the casino's location and feels that they can survive in the market.

The closest city to the Oracle Casino is Rostov-on-Don, located approximately about sixty miles from the facility. Valery Saparin, Marketing Director for the developer of the Oracle Casino, Royal Time. Saparin said that they hope that a lot of people will visit their casino in the near future.

The Russian casino industry had been thriving until the point where the Russian government decided that it wanted to remove casinos from big cities. In an effort to not completely ban casinos, the government permitted for their opening in less populated areas of the country.
