Stanley Leisure to Bid for Super Casino Operation in Manchester
On January 30,2007, after the Casino Advisory Panel's surprising announcement that Manchester won the bid to be the home of the super casino, Stanley Leisure announced that they were to bid for the first super casino in UK.
According to the Casino Advisory Panel, the 50,000 sq ft casino gambling facility will be the main attraction of the super casino at Manchester, as it will feature 1,250 jackpot gaming machines.
In this development, Stanley Leisure, the largest casino operator in the UK, is bidding to be the operator; company officials are hoping that there will be an open and transparent bidding process. In 2006, Genting, the leading Malaysian gambling company, acquired Stanley Leisure worth 639 million UK Pounds.
According to Michael Riddy, Stanley Leisure's Finance Director, the merged group has an excellent chance of winning the license. Though they will likely face stiff competition from US bidders, their position now as part of a multinational group is a very strong one as Genting just won a 3 billion UK Pound casino project in Singapore. Riddy further stated that they are preparing to bid for the license of other large casinos that the government will grant.
