On December 27th, 2008, the SkyCity Casino facility in New Zealand has seen their profit drop since the failure of Tourism Waikito. The organization was responsible for luring in people from different kinds of people from all over the world and having not been replaced has greatly affected the tourism industry in the Waikito region.
The manager of the SkyCity, Arthur Pitcher, firmly believes that the absence of Tourism Waikito has had a significant effect and he has decided the casino facility will be in the forefront in trying to form a brand new tourism organization. Pitcher said that they want to show that they are interested for it to happen and that they are willing place their money where their mouth is. Pitcher said that he is hoping that others will be inspired to follow his lead and also give some money to the cause.
SkyCity has announced that they will give fifty thousand dollars to get the new organization off the ground. They have not yet decided on how long they will donate the cash but for now it will be at least the first few years the new organization is around.
Now that the SkyCity Casino has come forward, other organizations are joining their mission. The Business Development Center, the Hamilton City Council, the Waikito Chamber of Commerce and the Hamilton International Airport are all reviewing the options for the new tourism group.
