Sheldon Adelson Opens Venetian Macau

On August 29th, 2007, it is totally different from the streets of Boston's Dorchester area to the billion dollar Venetian casino and convention facility in Macau but Sheldon Adelson made the trip successfully this week.

The Macau trip was made easier because he is the CEO of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation, who owner of the Macau Venetian. Sheldon Adelson and his wife Miriam, opened the Venetian Macau by breaking a bottle of champagne in the gondola before it floated in a canal near the facility.

Adelson is famous in the computer industry as the founder of the Comdex trade show, which annually attracted 200,000 visitors during the 1990's. Before that, Adelson managed a computer journal, the Datacom User that he utilized to help feature his Interface Group trade show operation. Before that he was a major investor in computer businesses in Boston but most have ended.

Las Vegas Sands commented that the Venetian Macau is the biggest casino in Asia and the second biggest casino in the whole world. Adelson said that the launch of the Venetian Macau is a realization of a dream that they have for a long time now - to make Asia a center of entertainment.

Adelson said that they are planning a larger casino and convention facility in South China. He added that they are also planning to build the Four Seasons Hotel, Sheraton Hotel and the St. Regis Hotel in Macau.
