Seneca Tribe Unveils Casino Plans

On October 3rd, 2007, after months of waiting, the Seneca Gaming Corporation unveiled their final design for their planned Seneca Buffalo Creek casino in the downtown area. Seneca officials unveiled the plans at 12:30 p.m. at the location of the temporary Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino, which opened to the public on July 3rd, 2007.

Seneca officials refused to divulge the final design before the unveiling. Phil Pantano, Seneca Gaming spokesperson said that they have already expected that they will immediately attract the attention of the gaming public. They are also hoping that the permanent casino will be a well-known landmark in Buffalo.

The debut of the plan comes after two years the Seneca Gaming Corporation bought a 9 acre land in South Park Avenue as the future location of their permanent casino and a year after the city officials agreed to transfer a part of Fulton Street to the gaming operations division of the Seneca Nation.

Fulton Street is near the Seneca's sovereign land and was viewed as an important part of the project. The casino area is expected to at least cost $125 million with the gambling facility featuring up to 2,000 slot machines and 50 casino table games.

Seneca Buffalo Creek is the 3rd of the three casino facilities that the state allowed the Seneca Tribe to manage in Western New York under a gaming compact on 2002. The two other casinos are in Niagara Falls and Salamanca.

It still remains the focal point of a federal case that casino critics filed against United States officials. The Seneca Gaming Corporation is not included in the lawsuit. Construction of the casino facility is expected to start later this year and will open in 2009.
