Riverwalk Casino and Hotel Begins Construction in Vicksburg

On April 19, 2007, the main developers of the Riverwalk Casino and Hotel located in Vicksburg told the Mississippi Gaming Commission that they are planning to start building this week.

The casino project, which is worth $100 million, will feature a high-rise establishment and a casino gambling facility with about 800 slot machines and 20 casino table games, as well as a hotel with about 80 rooms and a convention area, according to John A. Barrett Jr. from Shawnee, Oklahoma, the main developer of the project. The parking lot will be beside the Rainbow Hotel Casino and a promenade will give the customers a great view of the Mississippi River.

Both the casino and the hotel are expected to open to the public by July 2008. Barrett commented that Lamb Partners from Chicago is a major shareholder in the project. The Managing Director for Lamb Partners, Greg Carlin commented that the company feels that the economic climate of Mississippi is a good one because of minimal taxes and the chance to acquire unlimited gaming licenses that a company can apply for while conducting business in Mississippi.

The commission has given the developer the green light to begin construction on the project, as well as approval for the extended site of the casino project. Barrett said that the approval for the site will expire in December 2007.
