As of May 23, 2007, the Redding Rancheria Tribe is proposing an expansion of their Win-River Casino worth $90 million to better compete with their rivals in the area and increase their profits.
The plan states that the tribe plans to add an 8 story 175 room hotel, a 5 story parking space and a 2,000 seat convention facility. The tribe also plans to add 2,000 more casino gambling machines to their current offering.
The tribe faces stiff competition from the Rolling Hills Casino which is located in Corning. The Rolling Hills Casino has already expanded both their gambling offering and their facility since their opening on the west of Interstate 5 in July 2002.
The Rolling Hills Casino already offers 2 hotel facilities, restaurants and a convention center and is scheduled to debut their 18 hole golf-course this summer.
Gary Hayward, the General Manager of Win-River, says that they are planning the expansion in order to keep up with the competitors around their casino.
The convention facility will also allow them to get bigger customers. The Hotel facility, which will be marketed as a tourist destination will offer pool areas and a spa. Hayward said that they are currently trying to attract customers who normally commute all the way to Sacramento.
The last remodeling project of Win-River took place 5 years ago. The casino spent around $32 million on the remodeling of the casino.
According to Hayward, an environmental study, which is needed under the 1999 gaming compact of the tribe with the state should be released within one month. The 20 year old gaming compact permits the tribe to offer around 2,000 slot machines.
