On February 23, 2007, the brand new casino gaming facility in French Lick will receive a much needed tax cut under a new provision that was just added to a proposal. This provision mainly aims to allow slot machines to be offered and operated at the race tracks that are located in Indiana.
If approved by a voice vote, the proposal will ultimately give the newly opened casino breaks from paying out a $4 per person admission tax that goes through the opening turnstiles of the casino gambling facility. The tax break that was granted to the casino will last for about 5 years beginning June 30th, 2007.
The main author behind the proposal, Rep. Jerry Denbo, a democrat from the French Lick area, said that the proposal is aimed at protecting the brand new casino in case the slot machines at the race tracks are allowed, since they would be expected to take some customers away from the casino. The clause was added to the House Bill 1835, which is now available for a vote. If approved, the bill will be given to the Senate for a vote.
