On November 6th, 2007, the organization that is planning to construct a brand new casino on the location of the former Sands Casino Hotel is thinking of constructing a second one of the former Baden Field Airport. During a conference call to discuss Pinnacle's 3rd quarter earnings, company head Daniel Lee said that they are considering joining other casino companies that are looking to construct a gaming facility in Baden Field.
Lee's announcement marked a major change of attitude of the company, which said that they might abandon their casino project in the Board Walk if officials will permit casinos to be constructed on Bader Field. Pinnacle Entertainment is currently planning a $1.5 billion to $2 billion casino on the area where the Sands casino once stood. It was imploded last month.
The Pinnacle casino/hotel is expected to open in 2011 or 2012. Pinnacle does not own a casino facility in the East Coast Gaming city. Company spokesperson Pauline Yoshihashi commented that they still remain committed in their casino project on the Boardwalk, whatever happens at Bader Field. She added that the company's officials consider bidding for a Bader Field project after being assured by the officials of New Jersey that any casino development in Atlantic City will be done in a good fashion.
Bader Field, which shut down in September 2006 has drawn intense interest from casino organizations around the country like the MGM Mirage Incorporated. The 150 acre location has a lot of advantages over the Boardwalk area, including the fact that a casino developer would not have to bought different land parcel and rid them of establishments.
Lee talked with Gov. Jon Corzine during the October 19th, 2007 implosion of the Sands Casino and they spoke about the casino plans at Bader Field. Bader Field is owned by New Jersey, which has made a committee to review the possible uses for the land. Analysts have predicted that Bader Field is worth $1 billion on the market.
There are eleven casinos in Atlantic City. Aside from the planned casino of Pinnacle, Revel Entertainment is planning to construct a new $2 billion casino on the Boardwalk next to the Showboat Casino-Hotel. MGM Mirage announced last month their plans to construct a $5 billion mega-casino facility.
