Pinnacle Implodes Sands Casino Hotel

On October 19th, 2007, Pinnacle Entertainment cleared the path for the billion dollars gaming facility located at the Boardwalk with an awesome destruction of the former Sands Casino Hotel facility. It is the first time that a hotel on the East Coast was imploded.

Daniel R. Lee, the chairman and the chief executive officer of Pinnacle Entertainment said that the implosion of the Sands Casino Hotel is a momentous event for Atlantic City and their company. Their casino plans can now continue to develop a casino that will meet or even surpass the standards of Atlantic City gambling or customer hospitality.

The Chief Executive Officer of Pinnacle Atlantic City Kim Townsend commented that this occasion marks their first year in Atlantic City and proves their business commitment to the area. About 700 people attended the Sands implosion like Governor Jon S. Corzine and other state officials.

Business officials from Atlantic City also attended the implosion of the Sands Casino. The implosion, which was carefully planned, started at 9:15 p.m. The countdown for the implosion began after the fireworks as Daniel Lee and Governor Corzine pressed the detonator for the seventeen second building implosion.

The CDI or the Controlled Demolition Incorporated put 550 explosion charges on the 1st floor, 5th floor, 10th floor and 15th floor of the Sands Casino. Months before the implosion by the team of R.E. Pierson Construction, together with the CDI and Paulus, Sokolowski and Sartor, the debris and other unwanted materials were removed from the Sands Casino Hotel.

Sands occupied 6.5 acres of Pinnacle Atlantic City's 20 acre location. The Sands Casino Hotel, which opened for business in 1980 as the Brighton Casino was the smallest hotel in the city and was bought by Pinnacle Entertainment in November 2006.
