LPCiminelli of Buffallo, N.Y. has been hired by the operators of The Meadows race track as construction manager, in anticipation of a casino license to be awarded them for the proposed $450 million Meadows Racetrack and Casino.
LPCiminelli will be overseeing work on both the temporary casino and the permanent establishment, a 250,000 square foot, two story casino that would be housing 3,000 slot machines at the harness track in Washington County, Pa.
The Buffalo firm has likewise handled the construction and renovation of some major racing projects near the area. Wheeling Island Racetrack and Gaming Center, Wheeling, W.Va., is one of these, and LPCiminelli is also working on the track in Saratoga, N.Y.
The Meadows is expected to be the first bidder awarded a casino license in the Pittsburgh region by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. Pittsburgh is also set to receive one casino licence, for stand-along slot machines.
Meadows PA LLC is the holding company for The Meadows. The track's owner is Magna Entertainment Corp. of Toronto, and the company plans to sell the 43-year-old harness racing facility to Millennium Gaming of Las Vegas. Millennium Gaming in turn plans to have a slots parlor open come January 2007 in a temporary facility adjacent to the harness track.
