Organization of Caesars Casino Dealers Union Finalized

On March 26, 2007, the parent company of Caesars Atlantic City announced that they will not be challenging the vote by the workers in the gambling casino on whether they will unionize or not. This effectively gives Caesars Atlantic City casino dealers their first union organization in its 25 years of existence.

The deadline set for Harrah's Entertainment Inc. to file a case against the unionization election that was held on March 17, 2007, according to Harrah's and the United Auto Workers or the UAW, which started the union drive that will represent about 900 Caesars Atlantic City dealers, keno and even simulcast workers.

The Caesars employees voted 572-128 to become part of the United Auto Workers (UAW). The UAW commented that on March 27, 2007 they were informed by the National Labor Relations that their Boards already ratified the results of the election, allowing for collective bargaining at Caesars Atlantic City.

Elizabeth Bunn, the Union's National Secretary Treasurer, said that this is a historic milestone for the workers and they are proud to be a part of it. On the other hand, on March 31, 2007, the dealers at Trump Plaza will be voting on whether or not they will join the UAW union.

Officials from Harrah's Entertainment could not be reached for comment for the time being. The employees at Caesars Atlantic City will vote in a bargaining committee these coming weeks. Joe Ashton, the United Auto Workers Regional Director said that the casino dealers have sent a message with their approval of the union.

They are already anticipating a healthy bargaining relationship with the top officials of Caesars Management. A majority of the 45,000 casino employees in Atlantic City are already under unions like the service employees, but the casino dealers are not included in those numbers.
