Opening of Meadows Racetrack and Casino Delayed

On June 3, 2007, the gamblers in the Washington County will have to keep their bets off for a few more days following some minor difficulties at the brand new slots parlor at the Meadows Racetrack and Casino. The temporary slots parlor was suppose to open on Tuesday with test runs by invitation only this weekend.

Both the test nights and the opening have been postponed for the time being. According to Meadows spokesman, David La Torre, commented that a new opening date has not been set yet.

La Torre said that the delay will only be a matter of days. He said that the delay is needed following the decision made by the Meadows and the state gaming board that the security system of the casino needed to be improved before it opens to the public.

La Torre said that the whole thing is team collaboration. It was a problem discovered by the gaming board and the Meadows racing track officials. La Torre also mentioned that a fire took place at the gambling casino on Thursday, but thankfully the damage was not that significant.

La Torre said that the temporary casino facility will feature 1,800 slot machines, a food court and a live entertainment area, all of which are expected to be completed in 2 years.

He further stated that the Meadows is not bothered with the delay, since they want to take this time to make sure that all of the problems are fixed before opening to the public.

La Torre added that about 10,000 people have signed up for the Players Club, which is the casino's rewards program.
