Ongoing Employment and Casino Training at the Four Winds Casino
It would take a lot of people from New Buffalo, Michigan and the neighboring areas to fill the staff needed by the Four Winds Casino and Resort that will open in August 2007. The casino needs around 2,500 employees and the current census shows that the population of the city is around 2,200 at the moment.
The Four Winds has hired around 100 employees to be in charge of hiring the rest of the needed employees. The casino has also started free training courses for their future employees. Mr. Todd Lausch from Stephensville quit his job in the manufacturing industry to try his luck at the Four Winds Casino.
Lausch said that the manufacturing business is not a sure thing compared to a casino which has customers all day. That might be one of the reasons why the training courses are already full. Christa Peterman from New Buffalo said that she has applied to be a dealer at the casino and has been accepted so she is currently learning the basics of craps.
According to Four Winds General Manager, Matt Harkness, the hiring method has produced a good result. He said that they are now conducting 500 interviews per week that will later increase to about 700 interviews per week. But not all of the jobs at the casino will involve gambling.
Harkness commented that the facility will also need employees for the 6 restaurants inside the gambling casino and for their 165 room hotel. The casino is scheduled to open on August 2, 2007.
