The opening of the 2007 session of the legislature on April 11th will not help the condition of the gambling casinos in Carson City back in February. The wins of the Carson City / Carson Valley slid down about 4.25% compared to the same period last year when the legislature was closed. The Casinos' gaming wins were around $9 billion in February.
Across the state, the casinos reported a total of 2.86% gains with their total wins of $1.056 billion, which is smaller compared to what is expected because of the Chinese New Year Celebration, the NBA All-Star Game and the Super Bowl Fight.
Analyst Frank Streshley of the Gaming Control Board commented that the main problem lies in the fact that the NBA-All Star Game, the Chinese New Year and the Super Bowl Celebration all take place in the same week.
He commented that the state would have earned more if the important celebrations were observed on separate occasions. Streshley opinion was shared by Gov. Jim Gibbons. Gov. Gibbons said that the gaming win in February showed improvement last year, but it is not what is expected by state officials.
Across the State, the total gaming wins would lose around 1% if not for the performance of baccarat, which achieved a total of $117 million. That result is more than a 47% decrease from the same period last year. It helped pull the gaming table wins to around 11.5%, which is a total of $408.4 million.
Aside from Carson, South Shore also experienced negative results, where the casinos report a slide of about 3.7% to about $24.5 million. The main reason is the negative result of the slot machines, which have suffered a 9.6% decrease.
The county of Washoe also experienced a decrease of about 4.6% or about $80.6 million. Compared to the other counties, North Lake Tahoe had a good run, experiencing a total win increase of about 14.5% to about $3.3 million.
The wins produced by the slot machines made up the bulk of the wins of North Shore casinos. The wins of the casino table games improved about 26.4%. The county of Elko also achieved a total win of about $25.2 million or a 12.2% improvement.
