MyOhioNow.com Accomplishes Signatures Needed for Casino Proposal

On August 5th, 2008, MyOhioNow.com, the organization behind the effort to introduced casinos in Ohio, has completed its initial step placing on the November 2008 referendum a proposed constitutional amendment that would permit the creation of a casino facility in southwest Ohio. The group said that they have passed to the Ohio Secretary of State's office the petition featuring the 800,000 signatures of registered Ohio voters who are in favor placing the casino question in the November 2008 referendum.

The valid signature of at least 402,275 registered state voters are needed on the casino petition together with the signatures of at least five percent of the registered voters in forty-four casinos. The office of the Ohio Secretary of State must now pass the petitions to each of the concerned county to validate the signatures.

If MyOhioNow.com has gathered enough valid signatures, the measure will be put on the ballot in the November 4th election. The referendum calls for the approval of a $600 million resort/casino in Clinton County, with thirty percent of the casino profits divided to the eighty-eight counties in Ohio on a per-capita basis.

Supporters commented that the casino would produce five thousand jobs aside from additional construction jobs. MyOhioNow.com is a joint collaboration of Lakes Entertainment and co-founders Rick Lertzman and Bradford Pressman.
