Minister Rick Barker Orders Audit of Christchurch Casino

On October 9th, 2007, Rick Barker, the Internal Affairs minister has commissioned an independent audit of the system of the Christchurch casino that is utilized to monitor its gaming machines.

The casino facility has been under an increasing amount of investigation since June when the casino's alleged irregularities regarding their system have been leaked out in the public. They were leaked out by ex acting chief executive Stephen Lyttelton and his deputy, Peter Arbuckle who resigned from the casino in May and June respectively.

Among the allegations raised by Lyttelton and Arbuckle was the casino was getting money from their gambling machines. The charges raised by Lyttelton and Arbuckle resulted in an investigation by the Internal Affairs staff who reported on July 2007 that they could not find any evidence of any wrongdoings. But the staff admitted that they their investigation is not yet complete.

The latest investigation gives the casino one last problem before it is totally absolved of any crime. Barker said that the inquiry made by the department found no solid evidence of any skimming of gambling money. Barker said that the department is sure about their investigation but he has asked for a further investigation.

The new head of the casino Brett Anderson commented that he had no important concerns but he said that it is important for the whole process to reach a conclusion. Anderson commented that the electronic monitoring system of the casino would be reviewed by a firm in Melbourne.
