On April 17, 2007, the Milwaukee County Labor Council, the AFL-CIO passed a letter to state officials which stated that their organization is against a bill that would need a nod from the legislation, aside from the signature and approval of the Governor on any planned or ongoing off-reservation Indian tribal casino projects in the state of Wisconsin.
The Secretary-Treasurer and the Chief Operating Officer for the Labor Council Sheila D. Cochran, stated in her letter to the Assembly Committee on Urban and Local Affairs, that as a group which represents about 47,000 members and 135 locals in Milwaukee, they are strongly against the bill because it will block economic growth in Wisconsin.
Cochran further stated that the bill would cut down the plans of a Kenosha entertainment complex and a gambling casino complex that is being planned by the Menominee Indian Tribal Nation. Cochran also commented that they are great supporters of the project, which has already completed the required labor agreements that would create around 3,000 jobs for the people in the area. The Kenosha casino project would bring billions of dollars to the area and enough money for both the local and state economy.
