Mashpee Tribe to Discuss Casino Plans with Middleboro Residents

The chairman of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, Glenn Marshall, met with the residents and answered all their questions regarding the casino at the public meeting conducted at John T. Nichols Middle School at exactly 8:00 p.m. on May 14, 2007. The Mashpee Tribe has already spoken with New Bedford officials.

The Mashpee Indian Tribe has yet to decide on a final location for their casino, but tribal spokesperson, Amy Lambiaso, commented that tribal chief Marshal has made it clear that they are planning to build a casino which will compete with the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut.

Lambiaso also said that the tribe's lawyer, Reid Chambers from Washington D.C. who is from the law firm Sonosky, Chambers, Sachse, Edreson and Perry, will go with Marshal as well as a Mashpee Tribal Historian.

According to Lambiaso, Marshall has stated the tribe's casino intentions and what they are prepared to give back to the community.

The tribe owns 328 acres of land on Route 44 in east Middleboro and is interested in constructing a casino in southeastern Massachusetts. But the state does not allow tribal gambling casinos.
