Manchester Wins Battle for UK Super Casino
The battle for the UK super casino is finally over now that the Casino Advisory Panel announced on January 31, 2007 that Manchester is the chosen location.
The decision was a surprise to all as everyone was expecting that Blackpool would be the runaway winner of the casino race.
With the Casino Advisory Panel approval, the super-casino would be located at Sportcity in the area of Beswick, near the City of Manchester Stadium situated in east Manchester.
Aside from the gaming complex, the proposed casino site will also have an entertainment center with a variety of facilities, including a hotel, restaurants, nightclub, multi-purpose area, bars, and swimming pool.
As Stephen Crow, Chairman of the Independent Casino Advisory Panel explains, Manchester was chosen because it has very thorough consultation with its communities locally and it has a good reputation in dealing with the issue of problem gambling.
Aside from the super casino license, other casino licenses were granted to Middlesbrough, Great Yarmouth, Newham, Hull, Milton Keynes, Solihull, Leeds and Southampton for large gambling casinos.
Meanwhile, the choice of Manchester as the super casino location has shocked and even turned to anger in Blackpool where they are still in disbelief over the Casino Advisory Panel decision.
