Las Vegas Sands Casino Will Not Carry Cost of Lunch at Groundbreaking Event

There is no privilege like free food, especially for the city officials that attended the casino construction debut on Monday, May 7, 2007.

Mentioning the state law, Las Vegas Sands Corporation has petitioned elected officials that attended the groundbreaking event to pay $38.10 for the buffet. The groundbreaking was attended by 250 people.

Sands spokesperson, Ron Reese, released the buffet menu which was a food connoisseur's dream. The menu included different roasted vegetables and tomato, basil and mozzarella, heaps of tuna sushi with wasabi with ginger, wild mushrooms ravoli with pepper cream sauce, chicken Dijon morsels, jumbo lump crab cakes, artichoke and brie crostini. The dessert for the night was brown sugar chocolate cookies and lemon bars with raspberries.

Demolition on the site began on April 30, 2007 with the $637 million casino scheduled to open in late 2008. The initial offering of the casino will consist of 3,000 slot machines, restaurants, retail shops and much more.

The casino will add 2,000 slot machines, a 300 room hotel and an event center by 2009. Legislation passed last year barred casino owners licensed by the Gaming Control Board of Pennsylvania from giving free services and incentives to public officials as well as their families and close relatives.

Gaming Control Board spokesperson, Doug Harbach, said that a public official meant as an appointed or elected individual in the area that receives profits from casino gambling establishments.

Legal counsel representing the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board said that Las Vegas Sands is doing a good thing in carefully following the rules.

The officials that were present at the groundbreaking event were Bethlehem City Council Head J. Michael Schweder and Councilwoman Magdalena Szabo.
