Jim Justice, the owner of both the resort and the Greenbrier Sporting Club said that construction will soon start for the gaming casino at the Greenbrier casino. He said on July 16th, 2009 that the casino project will cost about $25 million. Justice said that the target date for the completion is in April 2010.
Drilling for the casino facility's core is already underway on the lawn of the casino's main entrance, which will be the location of the underground casino facility. Justice said that until the casino facility is completed, gaming will be offered on a small scale in The Tavern Room at the Greenbrier. He said that they do not want The Greenbrier to be a gambling destination only and promises that the casino facility will not affect the elegance and class of the resort.
Newly named vice president of casino operation Todd Fishon shares Justice's sentiments. Fishon said that they will integrate their first class service throughout the casino and resort, which is something very rare and unprecedented.
He said that they always ensure that their guests will always have a good time. Casino plans call for construction of a pair of stairways on the lower lobby of the resort that will lead to the casino area. Restaurants, retail shops and a sushi bar are also planned for the mezzanine with the casino area on the lower part.
Different entertainment options will also be available. A reflecting pool will be the main attraction on the lawn. During the construction of the gaming facility, the bell stand will be relocated from The Greenbrier's lower lobby to the north entrance. Justice stated that entrance to the casino will be limited to hotel guests, the members of the Sporting Club and overnight guests.
