Individuals Appeal to Zoning Hearing Board Regarding Casino in Pennsylvania

Entities opposing the establishment of a casino appealed a decision brought down by the Straban Township Zoning Hearing Board. The decision permits a proposed gaming resort near route 15 and 30.

The appeal seeks to overturn the decision, after the casino opponents have already asked an Adams County judge to nullify the board's decision, on the basis of 11 separate arguments.

After 6 hearings, the board reached a unanimous decision allowing the project to push through. Included in the permit are 10 conditions pertaining to traffic condition improvements, landscaping and a berm and fence between the recreational park of the township and the casino.

The developer, Crossroads Gaming Resort and Spa LP has already received preliminary planning approval from the township. Crossroads however is still waiting to be granted an important approval, the gambling license from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

Plaintiffs named in the appeal were 9 Straban Township residents who intervened in the zoning hearings. Originally, no Casino Gettysburg attempted to play a hand in the decision-making. However, the board ruled that the opposition group does not have a proper standing, causing individuals from the group to come forward instead.
