On March 26, 2007, the very first yearly Global Sports Betting Conference took place in the Austrian capital of Vienna with about 190 partiess participating in the event from about 32 countries. Much of the activities were concerned with the legal problems that the betting industry is currently facing in many countries all over the world.

Nonetheless, these problems are met head on and with appropriate determination, especially after Jean Bergevin, a speaker from the European Commission, gave some encouraging words during the conference. Bergevin, while quoting from the recent statements from the European Commission about border operations across the European Union said that there has been hope in the betting industry even with the problems that it encounters.

However, he warned that new restrictions will be made against the casino gambling industry. Some of the speakers at the conference were Kevin Hopgood from Ladbrokes, Michael Charlton and Peter Greenhill from Betex. The trio have studied the Asian Gambling and Betting market.

Codere, a Spanish based gambling operator has studied the growing gambling potential in most Latin America countries. The second part of the conference dealt with different media platforms, like online gambling sites, television, wagering via mobile phones and how to increase interaction with the gambling customers.
