Gambling Bill Gains Interest After BetOnSports CEOs Arrest in US

The Gambling bill approved in the US House of Representatives has garnered renewed attention after the arrest of BetOnSports CEO David Carruthers.

The twelve billion gambling industry was taken aback when the founder of Bet On Sports Gary Kaplan, CEO Carruthers and executives were indicted with tax evasion and illegal taking of bets.

The Gambling bill that aims to ban all types of web gambling was passed in the US House of Representatives last month and is now pending in the US Senate.

Arizona Republican Sen. Jon Kyl said that the indictment of gambling executives increase the need for the passing of a legislative ban on online gambling.

Rep. Bob Goodlatte, co-sponsor of the House gambling bill praised the prosecution and said they are glad that the US Department of Justice is taking action against illegal gambling.

Goodlatte said that legislation is needed to guard minors against gambling addiction.

The Wire Act of 1961 covers sports betting but it does not specify if it covers the other forms of gambling.

Casino games of poker, roulette and other kinds of online gambling are not clearly specified as included in the existing law.

The BetOnSports.com offers sports betting on soccer, football, baseball and other sports as well as popular games of blackjack, craps and other casino games.

Goodlatte also said that other gambling sites that operates offshore should pay attention to the prosecution as the US is observing its rights for extradition.
