France Following US's Footsteps in the Fight Against Online Gambling

The French seem to be following the United States' example when it comes to the fight to combat online casinos and online gambling.

French authorities appear to be mimicking the stringent actions that the US government has taken against online wagering with the announcement that one of the top online poker operators in the country is facing a ban on advertising.

According to reports, the French club, Le Salon des Ambassadeurs has prohibited Pokerstars, one of cyberspace's most popular poker rooms, from posting images on the venue. The ban also coincides with a tournament that is scheduled to take place at the game club.

The new development further solidifies the speculation that the French are following in the footsteps of the US when it comes to the online poker and online gambling industry. In September of last year, a number of executives from sports betting site BWIN were placed under arrest in the south of France. They were charged under the French version of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA).

Furthermore, the European Poker Tour, one of the most prestigious events in the poker world, announced earlier in January that the traditional Deauville portion of the tournament is being canceled, despite the fact that it was well-received in previous years.
