Ealing UK Aims to be The Next Las Vegas

Starting next year, Ealing Council will be licensing gambling premises within its area under the new Gambling Act of 2005, including bingo halls, betting shops, adult gaming centers, family entertainment centers, racing tracks and gambling casinos.

The Ealing Council is open to hearing all the residents' views on whether they want to see Ealing turn into a mini Las Vegas.

Ealing could soon be a new destination for those who love to play blackjack, poker, slots and other casino games, just like Vegas.

According to Councilor Ian Potts, Chairman of Ealing Council's Regulatory Panel, the Council is keen on discovering whether all Ealing's residents and business representatives support or object to the proposals. "We want to hear a broad range of public opinion so that we strike the right balance in generating our policy document," he stated.

Potts claims that the policy has been drafted with a strong emphasis on ensuring that gambling does not lead to crime or disorder and that it is conducted in a fair and open way. Just like other types of licenses, this policy will ensure that every gambling license application in the future will be considered on its merits and, in each case, representations from the local community will be taken into account before any decision is made.

The Act will effect over 2,000 amusement arcades, around 56,000 alcohol-licensed premises and 19,000 private clubs where gaming machines or gaming is available, plus 678 commercial bingo clubs, 138 casinos and 8,800 betting offices across the country.

700 community and voluntary sector groups, faith groups, relevant businesses, government agencies, the police, libraries and community centers were sent Consultation packs, including a questionnaire and the borough's draft policy statement. The consultation period runs until October 20th.
