Crown Casino Discovers $1,000 Counterfeit Chips at Gaming Tables

On April 23rd, 2009, the Crown Casino in Melbourne is in crisis after discovering that its gaming tables had been flooded with a fortune in fake gaming chips. Casino officials were checking the authenticity of an astounding $13.7 million worth of $1,000 chips after near perfect counterfeit chips were discovered. Crown Casino admitted that so far, it had found $36,000 in fake chips.

To scale down the damage, the casino facility decides to change color of their 1,000 chips to a different shade of blue. A hunt for those behind the incident has begun. A gambling floor worker sounded the alarm as she examined one of the $1,000 dollar chips in the highly-secured counting room.

Crown Casino officials admitted that they had absolutely no idea how long the cheating had been going or how much money they had lost. Casino spokesperson Gary O'Neill said that while doing routine check, one of the casino's officers detected what appeared to be counterfeit gaming chips.

As a result of that, they have decided to recall all of the $1,000 chips from all of their gaming tables. O'Neill said that the fake chips were of good quality so the fakes were not immediately detected. Players were not informed of the problems as the $1,000 chips were exchanged for a different color.
