On March 26, 2007, the Colorado State Senate passed a bill that will widen Colorado's smoking ban to include the casinos in the state after modifying the measure to give casino establishments one year to put the new measure into effect.
State legislators commented that Governor Bill Ritter is hoping for casino profits to be the main source of funds for the renewable projects. Colorado casino owners commented that their revenue could slide down about 30% since their casino gamblers will not want to stay in their establishment for very long if they have to step outside to smoke.
House Bill 1269, or the expanded smoking ban, will now be given to the House for review or any modification that needs to be done to the bill. Colorado casinos were not included in the smoking ban that was passed and approved last year by the state voters. The state of Colorado has permitted casino gambling in the famous, historic towns of Black Hawk, Cripple Creek and Central since the year 1991.
