City House, a nonprofit agency for troubled youths raised approximately $10,000 with the success of a Las Vegas casino night at the Hilton Garden Inn in Allen last October 7. The funds raised will be utilized to support programs at CITY House.
Upon noticing several other organizations had fundraisers centered on gambling and showed favorable results, the nonprofit agency also chose a casino theme.
There was good food; casino games like roulette, craps and a charity Texas Hold 'em tournament; live and silent auctions.
The auctions offered a one-week getaway to different Southwest Airlines destinations, golf bags, wine tasting parties, stays at Hilton Grand Vacations Club on the Las Vegas strip and the Doubletree Club Hotel and a week's stay at a Sunterra resort.
CITY House helps children who are homeless or in an abusive home environment, providing counseling services and a temporary place to stay.
Serving 1,800 children and families annually, the organization has 44 full-time employees, 10 part-time employees and 20 therapists.
Services include an emergency teen shelter for youth ages 10 to 17, and a transitional housing and support program for young adults ages 17 to 21. CITY house receives referrals from school guidance counselors, police and concerned neighbors.
CITY House stays connected with the community having relationships with Collin County school districts and Presbyterian Hospital in Plano.
