Boyd Gaming Shifts Casino Area in Northern Las Vegas

On April 11th, 2008, known casino operator Station Casinos has been the area's top developers, scouting out good neighborhoods before opponents can voice their complaints. Competitor Boyd Gaming Corporation has been less aggressive with acquiring land area, although the company has done everything in its power to keep up with Station Casinos. One prime example is North Las Vegas, where Boyd Gaming is the owner of the Coast brand, which bought forty acres of land in 2006 for a casino facility.

During the past year, Station Casinos finalized an agreement with American Nevada Company to construct the Aliante Station hotel and casino facility, which will open this year. Just recently, Boyd announced their plans to instead construct a casino at Park Highlands, the community at the Northwest corner of the Las Vegas Beltway and scrapped their proposed North Coast casino facility at the southwest area of the Centennial Parkway.

The casino in Park Highlands would be jointly managed by Southern Highlands developer Olympia Group and constructed in a similar design to the Station Casino made by the Green Valley Ranch casino in Henderson in joint partnership with American Nevada. American Nevada is a real estate developer managed by the same family that operates the Las Vegas Sun.

Boyd Spokesperson Rob Stillwell commented that the Park Highlands sites, which is not yet zoned for gambling, is more advantageous for the company because it is more profitable and a lot of people frequent the area more. That may be the single reason Boyd Gaming can sell their plan to North Las Vegas. Casino facilities in North Las Vegas have been slowed down by a weak economy, with gambling profits slowing down to double digits over the past months.
