CEO of BetonSports David Carruthers detained by US federal authorities
US federal authorities have detained BetonSports's chief executive David Carruthers, when the reason for the hold remains unclear.
Carruthers was in the middle of changing flights on his trip from the UK to Costa Rica, and was detained in the US stopover.
The apprehension has caused shares of online gambling stock to drop substantially. This is because BetonSports is considered among the largest US and Asia online gambling organizations, and has been ranked among the best online casinos in the world.
According to Betonsports spokeswoman, 'David has not had any contact with the outside world. All we know is that he was detained. Why he was detained we don't know and would not want to speculate.
This detention follows the recent US House of Representative vote passing a bill preventing US citizens from paying for online gambling games with their credit card. The bill is going to be presented to senate, and analysts say it's chances of execution are slim.
