BC Lottery to Make Some Changes in Canadas Gambling Addiction Program

Provinces in Canada are in the process of gaming expansion involving numerous avenues. Land-based gaming options as well as online gambling are both growing rapidly in Canada.

The British Columbia lawmakers called upon the BC Lottery Corporation on May 21st, 2010 to make the necessary changes regarding in the current regulations regarding problem gaming. According to several lawmakers, the current system needs an overhaul since it is not working.

The self-exclusion program for gambling addicts was the main target of legislators. The program has a good success rate but experts and state officials agree that the success of the program is not nearly as big as what is advertised.

Gamblers who voluntarily sign-up for the program are assured they will be blocked from entering casinos facilities. But several gaming addicts have confessed to being permitted into casinos after signing-up.

Government critics believe that while some are advocating for a rule change, the majority of lawmakers have become used to the revenue produced from gambling addicts.

One gaming addict alleged that lawmakers do not want to stop individuals from coming in the casinos and spending the usual amount of money that they spend since problem gamers spend the most money compared with other gamers.
