On April 25th, 2008, with all the problems that his casino facing because of the lawsuits filed against it, PITG Gambling Developer Don Barden said before the Gaming Control Board in Harrisburg that he thinks there is an ongoing conspiracy to stop the project. He said that there is some people that are trying to ruin the casino and spreading rumors that are damaging to their reputation.
But according to State Senator Wayne Fontana, a Democrat from Brookline and is currently representing the casino said that there is no conspiracy going on and everybody is just anxious to get the casino up and running so that everybody in the area can benefit from the property tax relief.
Regarding with the issue of Barden's financial capability, Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato commented that a lot of people are familiar with the issues regarding Barden's casino operations. With all the controversies regarding the casino operations of Barden, it is clear that no issue will be blocking the construction of the Majestic Star casino, which will open to the public on May 2009. Workers are now busy building the 2nd floor of the casino with steel beams near the concrete infrastructure that will be the new parking area of the casino.
While Onorato is confident on the financial side of the project, he is against on the request of Barden to delay the construction of the ballroom and amphitheater of the casino because it will be unfair to the residents who are expecting a grand casino. The Pennsylvania Gaming Board has not made any final decision regarding the financial issue of the Majestic Star casino until May 12th, 2008.
That is only a week away before the two hundred million dollars bridge credit will due and he needs the approval of the gambling board and an additional bank loan to continue the construction of the casino facility. Onorato and the mayor will continue to talk with Don Barden to ensure that the original agreement will be followed.
