Arneault Mountaineer Racetrack Expands Operation

On August 4th, 2007, the Mountaineer Horse Racing track of Ted Arneault which is located in the northern panhandle of West Virginia held West Virginia's biggest and grandest horse racing event - the $750,000 Grade III West Virginia Derby.

It is the 38th staging of the tournament but only the 10th since Ted Arneault re-launched the race in 1998 with $200,000 prize money. In 1999, the prize money improved to $250,000, then $300,000 in 2000 and by the year 2001, the prize money jumped to $500,000.

From the year 2004-2005, the prize money was $600,000. The prize money improved to $750,000 in 2005. The winner will get $450,000.

It will be the richest horse race that is offered by any race track in the country. The nine open stakes horse racing card of $1.55 million is more than what any race track will pay in North America.

Arneault said that they are very happy and proud of that fact and it shows to the customers that they have a solid commitment in the horse racing industry. They are considering upgrading to a Grade 2 horse racing event next year.

That is hard to fight against when considering the 10 horse derby racing field includes four graded stakes champions and four graded stakes placed horses. Half of the horses competed in the Triple Crown races this spring, four in the Kentucky Derby and a single horse in the Belmont stakes. But Ted Arneault is already looking forward in the future.

On September 1st, 2007, Arneault will be unveiling the brand new Presque Isle Downs in Erie, Pennsylvania. Arneault said that they are very happy and proud of their new "racino".

Arneault added that with the slot profits, they will be able to offer an overnight purse of $423,400 per day.

The newest horse racing meet will be the September 15th, 2007 Masters at the Presque Isle Downs. Arneault commented that they wanted to do something special for the inaugural season of the Presque Isle Downs.

This racing meet will offer $400,000 dollars to the winner. There will be also Breeder's Cup Championship race. The winning trainer will also receive an English style riding jacket.

But what really has Ted Arneault happy with his widening racino operation is the addition of casino table games in Mountaineer. The approval came on June 30th, 2007.

Arneault said that they will be offering 37 poker table games and will have a poker room at the racing track. Aside from that, the racing track will also offer 50 other casino table games like craps, blackjack, roulette and others.
