6th Annual Night of Kings And Queens to Benefit Give Every Child a Chance

The annual Night of Kings and Queens, now in its 6th year, is back again at the MRPS Hall on Saturday, September 30, 2006. Funds raised from this event will go to Give Every Child a Chance, an organization that has a proven track record of improving the grade levels of struggling students. Based on state testing results, 87% of all students that participate in the tutoring programs provided by Give Every Child a Chance improve their academic performance by at least one grade level (for example, from a "D" to a "C").

"This is a great way to make a difference in a child's life if you don't have the time to volunteer," according to Carol Davis, CEO of the organization. "The money helps buy materials and other things needed to make the free tutoring possible."

As it starts its 10th year, the organization has a total of 27 tutoring sites for after school programs .

For a $35 admission ticket, players get the chance to participate in the usual "mock" casino, which includes roulette tables, craps, poker and blackjack, as well as hors d' oeuvres. There will be a no-host bar, silent auction, a live auction and dancing.

This event will feature a Texas Hold'Em Poker tournament from 6:00pm to midnight. For an additional $20 donation, anyone can test his/her skills by competing for the title of Kings and Queens of Poker Champ. 3 rounds of play will determine who makes it to the final table.

To reserve a spot for the tournament, call Give Every Child A Chance at 823-6222. For information on the programs offered through Give Every Child a Chance, feel free to call 825-7003.
